Overview of the Racing Season

Our handicap racing fleet is made up of boats ranging from 18' to 36'.​

We have a spinnaker class and a non-spinnaker class.

The spinnaker class uses the TCF handicap system.

The non-spinnaker class uses the NHC handicap system.

Skippers and regular crews must be members of LPOYC to be scored. See MEMBERSHIP page.

Below are the events that make up our racing season. See RACE SCHEDULE for exact dates.

​The Spring Rum Runner Series - 6 Sunday races held in May & June​.​
The Goat Float Regatta - A 2-day regatta held on Memorial Day Weekend.
The Spring Long Distance Race - A 10-25 mile race in late Spring.
The Summer No-Wine-Ing Series - 6 Sunday races held in July & August.
The Great Single Hander Race - A single handed race held in July, 2026.
The Summer Long Distance Race - A 10-25 mile race in mid Summer.
The Fall Growler Series - 6 Sunday races held in September.
The Commodore's Cup - LPOYC's Championship. A 2-day regatta held in October, 2026.​​
Note: For the above races, there is a skippers' meeting at 9:00 am on each race day. Races start around 10:00 am. The courses are random leg and announced on race day.
The Pearl Island Race - A long distance race around Pearl Island in October, 2026.
The Wednesday Evening Beer Can Series - 14 races on Wednesday evenings held May through August. Races are divided into two 7-race series. ​
Note: Wednesday races start at 6 pm and use a short, fixed-length course. We gather for a pot luck BBQ after the race.​
